EPP Congress in Helsinki on 7-8 November to elect party Spitzenkandidat
The European People’s Party (EPP) will hold its Congress on 7 and 8 November in Finland.
Co-hosted by Kokoomus leader Petteri ORPO, EPP President Joseph DAUL and EPP Secretary General Antonio LÓPEZ-ISTÚRIZ, the Congress in Helsinki will focus on preparations for the 2019 European elections and the election of the EPP’s lead candidate (Spitzenkandidat).
2,000 participants from more than 40 countries have been invited to participate in the Congress in Helsinki.
The list of invitees includes the EPP’s EU heads of state and government: Nicos ANASTASIADES (Cyprus), Boyko BORISSOV (Bulgaria), Klaus IOHANNIS (Romania), Sebastian KURZ (Austria), Angela MERKEL (Germany), Viktor ORBÁN (Hungary), Andrej PLENKOVIĆ (Croatia) and Leo VARADKAR (Ireland) as well as the Presidents of the European Commission Jean-Claude JUNCKER, the European Parliament Antonio TAJANI and the European Council Donald TUSK.Deputy Prime Ministers Arvils ASERADENS (Latvia) and Kris PEETERS (Belgium), Minister of Justice Søren PAPE POULSEN (Denmark), party leaders Béla BUGÁR (Slovakia), Sybrand BUMA (The Netherlands), Helir-Valdor SEEDER (Estonia), Horst SEEHOFER (Germany), and opposition leaders Pavel BĔLOBRÁDEK (Czech Republic), Silvio BERLUSCONI (Italy), Pablo CASADO(Spain), Adrian DELIA (Malta), Janez JANŠA (Slovenia), Ulf KRISTERSSON (Sweden), Gabrielius LANDSBERGIS (Lithuania), Kyriakos MITSOTAKIS (Greece), Rui RIO (Portugal), Grzegorz SCHETYNA (Poland), Marc SPAUTZ (Luxembourg) and Laurent WAUQUIEZ (France) have been invited. The list of participating non-EU heads of state and government at the EPP Congress and Summit in Helsinki will be published at a later stage.
Brexit Chief Negotiator Michel BARNIER has also been invited.
The Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament Manfred WEBER will be present.
